If only a parent could get paid for all they do...
An interesting comparison that many parents like to inform their spoiled children of, and one that all spoiled children should consider, is the comparison of the job of a parent to the multiple jobs others get paid to do. Beginnig at the beginning, a parent starts by developing the experience of a general education teacher without all the paperwork. They must teach the child(ren) right and wrong, how to share, how to write, the names of things, and they take field trips. If the child has a disability of some kind (hearing, vision, learning, physical, etc), then the parent develops the skills of a specialized teacher for the disabled (or hearing/visually impaired, handicapped, etc). This would include a 'minor' in life skills because, regardless, of the child's disability, many parents want them to learn to adapt to their surroundings, and eventually become as independent as possible. As the child(ren) grow, the parent's skills must as well. Multi-tasking and organizational skills can compare a parent to hotel staff: conceirge, telephone operator, tailor, laundress, housekeeper, and the hotel chef. The conceirge job is included because nowadays many parents have busy schedules, and they have to schedule sleepovers, birthday parties, graduation parties, doctor/dentist appointments, and the like; in addition to giving bored pre-teens ideas of what to do somewhere else other than in the house. A job many parents would prefer not to have is that of an EMT, emergency medical tech. Majority of parents can do an EMT's job over an RN, registered nurse, because the EMT has basic first aid skills (slap some Neosporean and a bandaid on it and they're done), and the necessary often used, skill of accessing a wound and deciding whether or not a doctor should take care of it. As always, and since the beginning of time (yes, Adam and Eve probably carried their children places too), the parent has been the chauffer, the accountant, and the ATM. The most essential job that parents may not realize all of these skills, and years of experience, has entitled them to by the time their child has reached 18 is CEO/President of the whole (Your Last Name Here) Empire. Of course ever parent is different, there are some jobs that parents cannot do, do not need to do, or simply will not do, but in the end majority of us don't mind simply being told 'I love you, Mom/Dad' because no job could pay enough in comparison to what that feels like.
